Shinobi: Heart Under Blade.

Just finished watching the Japanese epic tragedy, Shinobi Heart Under Blade. More or less its a spin off of Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet...but with kick ass ninjas!

Wonderful cinematography...wire work was kept to a minimum which was nice as 90 percent of the epic Asian kung-fu genre as of late has been over saturated with its use. Overall the film was a good blend of drama, romance, and action.

Don't confuse this thinking that it is a translation of the Shinobi video game...but instead is the source material that the video game was based off of. Anyways...I really enjoyed it, and if you happen to stumble across it it is definitely worth the time to watch. Just keep your eyes peeled for the doppelganger ninja guy...he's way rad!

Check out the youtube trailer for it HERE. Its not subtitled though and no need to worry - the god awful song in the trailer isn't in the movie. *g*

Casino Royale.

I have to admit that I was never really all that excited to see Daniel Craig as the new James Bond in Casino Royale. My parents were HUGE fans of the old school Bond films so naturally I grew up watching them. The later films though with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan didn't do anything for me, they seemed bloated with Hollywood and missed the charisma that Moore and Connery portrayed so well.

Last night at midnight the trailer for Casino Royale was released online, and I gotta say that it really has the flavour of the old films. Its got me excited - and by the gods it looks like they may finally have a new GOOD Bond film on their hands. Something that is all its own - but at the same time properly captures that James Bond feeling. Time will tell I suppose.

V For Vendetta.

Another comic movie that has caught the attention of my eye is V For Vandetta. Directed by John McTeigue, produced by Andy and Larry Wachowski (of Matrix fame) and starring Natalie Portman, and Hugo Weaving.

I haven't read a whole lot of this series, just a TPB or two...But still...The plot and premise of the story could transfer really well over onto the big screen. Time I suppose will tell.

X3 teaser poster...

One more tidbit of media info that excites me. The official X3 teaser poster...I hope with the change of directors in this franchise the thing doesn't suck ass. So far the X-Men movies have been pretty good...Would be a shame to see it go down the crapper.

Its released.

Batman Begins came out today, and I had every opportunity to go, yet I passed on it.
Strange.
Ahh well, not like its going anywhere on me. Still I know when I wake tomorrow I will have wished I had gone. I couldn't help it...My limbs ached and my mind was tired. It was a double shift day...And I just didn't have any juice left.

Batman Begins.

there's a new Batman Begins trailer out, and its pretty fucking stellar...You can check it here.

June 15th is the release for this...And after the bitter disappointment from the last few horrible Batman films I am finally starting to regain a small flicker of hope for this new one.
Batman is definitely one of the cooler superheroes out there, and I pray to the gods that this story isn't slaughtered like so many other comic to film adaptations.

Casshern.

Blue screen films seem to be becoming more and more popular as time goes on. Sky Captain, Sin City are two that come immediately to mind.

There is however another film that I saw some time ago that completely blew me out of the water with its beautiful cinamatography. The plot line was fairly simple, but the overall tone of the film just left me sitting there with my jaw hanging open. Casshern at the time was something really special to me, and I am happy to say that finally Amazon has a release date on the DVD. April 25 2005! Sadly this was on Amazon UK and the American Amazon still doesn't have a listing on it yet. Still...Now its just a mater of time.

its the closest I have seen any live movie come to having the feel of an anime feature...And I highly recommend checking it out if you happen to have the chance. I myself download it off of one of the many Bit Torrent websites out there and know its still available that way, still...It wont be long until I can get the DVD in my hungry, oh so greedy little mitts. :)

Kung Fu Hustle

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Wow...Just watched this movie. Freaking awesome! Made by Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer) Kung Fu Hustle was everything I was hoping for.

Awhile back I went and saw that kick boxing flick Ong-bak (which for the record was pretty crappy but had some cool fighting in it). Anyways they played a trailer for this Kung Fu Hustle film and I immediately knew that I would enjoy it. Since then I have been scouring all the download sites looking for it and finally got a hold of a copy cuz I couldn't wait until it came to theaters here.

What a great film...Funny, far fetched and some wicked cool ideas. Its so refreshing to see films that come from outside of the Hollywood meat grinder, something that's not redundant and been done to death already. Kung Fu Hustle was chalk full of brilliant concepts, and as cheesy as it was I kept chuckling to myself at everything that I was bearing witness to. From the Palm of God move...To The Lions Roar move the the story kept franticly throwing more and more at me until I couldn't possibly take in any more.

Its not a film for the serious martial artist that's for sure, but if you got an open mind and a sense of humor then this is one flick to keep your eyes open for when it gets its North American release. I know I for one will definitely be going to check it on the big screen when that day comes.

Sin City.

What do Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Benicio del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Jessica Alba, Josh Hartnett, Mickey Rourke, Christopher Walken, Steve Buscemi, Elijah Wood, Kate Bosworth, Nick Stahl, Jaime King, Rosario Dawson, Robert Rodriguez, and Frank Miller all have in common?

SIN CITY BABY!

Being a fan of Frank Miller...as well as being a fan of Robert Rodriguez this is one comic book film that I have been looking forward to since I heard about it! Apparently the majority of the film is shot against blue screen (the same way Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow was) and for me that feeling will suit this film perfectly!

April 1st cant get here soon enough!

You can check the trailer HERE...
