The silence is broken...

A new blog brought to you by the makers of, I cant believe I just smoked that whole bong and am now trying to make my first blog post in a long ass time!  Like a galaxy far, far away long time...!

But here we are, and now its to late to turn back, so sally-ho, saddle up and yeeeee-haw...!

Right.

Egg Nog.

That's why I haven't been blogging.  Some time shortly after my return back to the city and my slow rehabilitation into city life I decided that I was not going to blog until Egg Nog was in the stores and I had bought my first carton.

This has been done.

Twice now actually.

Heh.

Soooo...yeah.  Egg Nog.

To be honest there were quite a few times where I wanted to blog!  It wasn't easy.  Just a lot of personal shit going on in my life at that time and I didn't feel like allowing it to spill over here at Elusive Twilight.  Things have stabilized, and now I should be a bit more regular in my blog postings again.  I figured putting a condition on my return was a way of guaranteeing myself any embarrassment over emo style blog postings.  Time will now be our judge and jury.

Ahhhh.  Explosions In The Sky.  Anyone a fan?  Thats what's playing right now (is the only reason I mention them).  good band - really chill, but in a quiet, epic kinda way.  Anyways, kudos to them and I highly recommend them. :)

Ohhh look!  Shiny!

I'm baaaaaaaack!  *grins*

Its a Pink Floyd kinda day...

Pomegranate:

I don't think I like you.  Your skin is tough and you are hard to peel and slice.  You have to many seeds and your tart juices stain my fingers.

Even when I drink you I find that I have to mix you up with other fruit juices.

Fruit juices that I actually like.

I am sorry, pomegranate, but I am afraid we can go no further together.

Please leave.

Rainy day today.  the kind of day where you wake up on the stern side of miserable.  Its cold, gray, and wet.  I have hunkered down with a nice big bowl of Chicken vegetable soup with croutons and parmesan cheese and am pretending that its a GIANT FUCKING cigarette!

GAH!!

*sighs*

I has pots!

But no pans (yet).

I have really been missing being able to cook at home.  Truth be told...I haven't done any at home cooking since the middle of September!!  When I got home from out north and stayed with those friends until the beginning of this month I didn't do any cooking at their place.  I just ate at work or went out somewhere.  I guess I did some simple cooking for their 3 year old - but that doesnt count.

Anyways...thats a hell of a long time to go without cooking.  I have really been missing it lately and I am really getting antsy to get my kitchen up and running.  Anyways, last night I gathered up the rest of my stuff that has been in storage since my northern adventure.  It was mostly books...but low and behold there was a box with all of my cooking pots as well.  I thought for sure I had given them away to a friend or something.  GOOD quality pots aren't cheap - and having this little jewel of a box tucked away with the rest of my stuff really made me happy.

One step closer.  There is still soooooo much I need though.  I have no utensils of any kind...things like spatulas, large mixing spoons, whisks not even to mention flatware for actually getting the food into my mouth!!  and of course I need knives...cutting boards, mixing bowls, sheet pans...

Sheesh.

Thats not even touching on the fact that I still need a microwave, toaster oven, slow cooker, and water cooler.

It just never stops!  what the hell was I thinking when I gave all this stuff away last spring!! O_o

...

Go on...say it.  This was by far the most interesting blog post I have made...EVER!

A random slurring...

I just sold my Wii. Last Sunday Oy went to his new home. Tomorrow I sell my PS3.

WTF is happening? My head is spinning!!

End of the month I lose Loki and my 360.

I'll also lose my LCD T.V. my sectional and my bookcases.

Yesterday I went roller blading for the first time this year. Torte girl and I drove out to the park and tooled around. Not gonna lie...theres nothing like smoking a doob and going for a skate. To glide, ahhhhhhh to glide.

On a slightly related note, yesterday I also walked around barefoot outside for the fist time this year. What a great feeling. Love it love it love it.

Update on my straight blade situation. So the girlie that I had checking into it for me found what I needed. 14 bucks for the handle and case thingie, and then 75 cents a pop for blades.

Wow.

What a difference in price. Right now a razor is like 20-25 bucks and replacement blades can be as expensive as 30 bucks. I just hope I don't tear the shit outta my face with this straight blade get up.

In about two weeks I am going to be able to go on a clothes shopping spree and drop around 7-800 dollars!! Suuuuuper stoked for that. Brand new wardrobe! I need clothes badly...like bad badly. I went out and did a little scouting at the stores I wanted to spend money upon and I'm pretty happy to get some new duds.

Speaking of...things are spinning outta control quickly with all the crap I need to buy to begin my little adventures. I have till June 6th to get everything I need. Clothes being on the top of that list.

What else?

You know what I have discovered I am most excited about traveling?

Food.

I want to eat everything everywhere I go. I cant stop thinking about it. I think I might even start up a side blog talking about all the food I am going to try. There isn't really any kind of food that I don't like. Sure I have preferences in taste and what not - but I don't think there is anything that I wont at least try.

'Cept for pets. I don't eat pets.

Anyways...thats enough. I'm off to watch the third episode of the new Hell's Kitchen.

I like laughing at them when they burn the scallops...

*edit*

I think this may be the most useless boring blog post I have ever made.

Sorry bout that.

Hungry hippo moving company, and the mad adventures of roast beef.

I helped Torte Girl move her belongings all across the city yesterday. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty freaking stiff today. It was just the two of us...moved her whole damn apartment. You can imagine the joy we shared with one another as we hauled heavy furniture down three flights of stairs, and then back up five flights of stairs to where we were taking everything.

Still, we got'er done and thats one less thing off our backs to get finished before we head off.

I don't know why we didn't have any help with the moving. Its not like we lack friends that are more then willing to lend a hand, its just the way we're wired I guess. We hustle, we get it done. Get up and go kinda attitude. Ha. Hell, last summer we moved both of our apartments alone together...

There was one strange thing. Never before have I caught myself exclaiming out loud in a panicked voice about having to rush back to my place so I can check on the roast I had in the oven.

As soon as I heard the words come out of my mouth my eyes opened wide and I started laughing.

Torte girl just looked at me with a strange look in her eyes.

I don't know if she was glazing over with anticipation for roast beef and gravy, or if she was trying to figure out what the hell I was laughing at.

I just baked...

24 chocolate chip cookies. They are a little to 'cakey' for my taste. I like my ccc's fairly flat and oh so chewy. Still, these are nice and soft and very chocolaty.

Avocado/cheese/jalapeño bread. I was really excited to try this out. I'm a big avocado guy and I was stoked to use it in a way I hadn't before. The end result fell pretty flat. I guess they are ok, but my quest for an original easy quick bake bread will continue.

Raspberry cream cheese coffee cake. SWEET. Deathly sweet...like chug a gallon of milk along side of this sweet. Its good though, and prolly the winner of tonights little baking extravaganza.

Thats all.

...

On an unrelated note - the news I have been waiting for that I was supposed to find out about either last night or this morning...

Ya. Still waiting.

I'm going crazy cuz this news could swing one of two ways...and either way it greatly effects my life.

I suppose it was because of this that I found myself in the kitchen trying to distract myself.

I hate wait.

Eggs in a nest

Eggs in a hole, eggs in toast, eggs in a saddle, Egyptian eggs...no mater what you call it...I absolutely love 'em.

You know...the hole in the bread, the bread in the frying pan, and the egg cracked into the hole...blah, blah, blah.

And I love frying up the little circle bit from the hole you made along side the eggs and toast. It soaks up all the flavors and is all crispy and such.

Yum.

That was in fact supper tonight. :P

Been eating a lot of comfort foods lately. Stuff that makes me feel...good. Eggs in a nest is a perfect example. Its along the same vein as say a nice grilled cheese sandwich served along side a hot bowl of tomato soup on a rainy day.

Bolthouse Farms.

I am addicted to >these< drinks!! The smoothie line in particular. They are kinda expensive (as far as drinks go) but they are just so damn tasty. I'm a big fan of the Vanilla chai and the Strawberry Banana ones! However, today I tried the Blue Goodness one for the first time and it was pretty freaking fantastic as well!

That is all.

I have portion control issues.

Whenever I cook at home whatever it is I make I end up having to eat if for an entire week. I work in kitchens for a living that serve hundreds of people at a time...not just one.

Anyone want some pasghetti? :P

A moment of silence please...

To give honor and respect to the often overlooked wonder of...

The Butter Tart.

Let us give thanks for the delightful bounty of tastiness that is bestowed upon us whenever we are lucky enough to find ourselves consuming this magnificent morsel gifted to us by the gods!

Also, on a side note...the first three episodes of Jericho have leaked on the torrent sites. I just finished watching all of them...and wow...its good to be back. On the down side, it means I have to wait even longer now for the world to catch up. O_o

Alien....salad?

"In November 2006 Till Nowak created the image "Salad". For this image he created 12 digital vegetable models
in 3ds max using photographic references. They were combined to become a tribute to the fantastic biomechanical
creations of H.R. Giger and the vegetable portraits of Giuseppe Arcimboldo."

Raspberry & DragonFruit Bacardi Rum Fruit Breezer.

Was at the lake yesterday...had to get outta the city. Torte girl and I packed it up, hopped in a car and booked it to the nearest body of water. Rather then hit a populated beach, or any other such place with people types, we parked the car on the side of the highway, hoofed it through the bush and through some private properties, and arrived to a 4-5km stretch of beach and rock...all to ourselves, save for the occasional peddle/paddle boats that drifted by further out in the lake.

Long story short...we consumed some coolers that had Dragon Fruit in them and I have to say that they tasted pretty god damned delightful.

Could be a chance that there is hope for the Dragon fruit after all...

Dragon-licious!

I first saw it the other day when I was at the grocery store, it was in the produce section where I was picking up a few items for the evening meal. The words, Dragon Fruit, glared out at me like a bat signal screaming for immediate heroic attention.

Dragon Fruit? Can this truly be? How have I not heard of this before?

All these questions were flying through my brain as I approached the bin that held this mysterious fruit that claimed to belong to my precious dragon culture.

There they were, like tiny little dragon eggs, it had to be, if ever there were to be a fruit that heralds from a mighty, soaring, fire breathing beast - then this was it.

Take a gander...

Pretty cool, eh?

Apparently the Dragon Fruit originates from Mexico, and Central/South America. Only at night does it bloom white flowers that are sometimes called, Moonflower, or Queen Of The Night.

Peeling it was easy, I simply grabbed hold of the stalky, cactus like husk, and tore them downward and away from the fleshy pale inside of the fruit. I sliced it in half, and the the half's into halves, the juices sparkled amongst the tiny little seeds, much like the seeds you are used to finding in a Kiwi.

Anxiously I popped a piece into my mouth! What was it going to be like? Would there be a one in a million chance that the Dragon Fruit was going to transform me into some terrifying animal with tooth and nail and BBQ breath?

Sadly, no. In fact, after all the excitement from the name of this fruit and the way that it looked, I have to say that the taste was overall quite underwhelming. It didn't taste bad, it didn't taste good either. It just tasted like something cold and wet in my mouth. No sweet, no sour...just a chilled, gelatinous pulp that sat on my tongue.

Ah well. So be it. At least they look gnarly as hell, and now at least I am in the know in regards to the zanny Dragon Fruit - I just wished that it had forever changed my life.
