Survey says...

I am happy to report that after last nights viewing of the latest Indy flick, I am in no way disappointed. In fact, I feel that I have now come to the conclusion that I enjoyed it even more then I thought I would.

Indiana Jones is pretty important to me. To say that I grew up loving this franchise would be an understatement. Its safe to say that for a number of those very young (but very influential) years I subsided entirely on three things. Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe and Star Wars. Somewhere in there comic books and Sci-fi/fantasy novels came into play and I could start ranting off on a whole other tangent, but we'll save that for another day.

Suffice to say, I was pretty nervous going into this film. With the let down of the last three Star Wars movies I wasn't all to sure if I would be able to handle another bastardization of what was surly holy scriptures from my youth.

*Slight spoiler ahead*

There were times where I wasn't all to sure about what I was watching, there were times when things seemed just a little over the top on the slapstick. The part with Indy and Marion in the quick sand and Mutt hurling a giant snake at Indy to use as a rope for escape...meh...just didn't feel that part. Mutt getting sacked in the nuts as he straddles two army vehicles careening through the jungle...another part that I felt myself wince, and lets not forget Indy surviving a nuclear explosion by hiding in a lead lined refrigerator.

*Major Spoiler ahead*

I just don't know how I feel about the aliens.

Now I knew full well ahead of time that things revolved on an alien society...I was preparing myself for that, and held tight to the belief that Lucas, Ford, and Spielberg knew what they were doing. However as I watched it unfold, I still couldn't entirely wrap my head around the fact that Indiana Jones was facing off against an alien race. Or helping them...or whatever. Gimme Nazis, gimme brutish Thugee cult followers, gimme mad crazy Pigmy's...but leave my aliens to people like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Still, if there has to be aliens (sighs) then I have to say that they pulled it off the way that it had to be pulled off. Ford felt like Indiana, the movie felt like an Indiana movie, and really thats all that I cared about.

I'm going to go see it one more time before I head up north (and seclude myself from any of the new movies coming out this summer *grumbles*) and maybe then I will have something a bit more structured to say in regards to this long anticipated adventure.

Throw me the idol, I throw you the whip...

Midnight showing for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull tonight!

Will it suck? Will it blow us away, or will it just simply be?

I figure it will be a bit of everything. I find it hard to believe that the film will be able to entirely capture all the nostalgic childhood joy I feel when I think back to the first 3 Indiana Jones movies, but I am hopeful that at the very least I will find myself absorbed into some sort of crazy archaeological hi-jinx fast paced adventure!

Guess we'll find out soon enough!

This is just a warm up.

Of what I am sure will be many blog topics to come. Am I excited for the live action movie? Yes. Am I nervous its going to suck every single type of ass known to the entirety of our universe? Very much so.

Anyways, heres a little something to set the mood.

3 things pretty much sum up my childhood...

Indiana Jones.
Star Wars.
G.I. FREAKING Joe.

No time for love, Dr. Jones, we've got company!

The rumors of a 4th Indiana Jones film have been in circulation for years and years now. Over the past year and a half or so Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford have gotten a lot more serious at the prospect of actually making the film, however every time a script was handed in Lucas rejected it. Apparently the three had said that they would only make a 4th installment if they all agreed on the script. So round and round we went...Spielberg and Ford were happy with a couple of scripts, but Lucas kept saying no.

Well, now all that has changed. Screenwriter David Koepp has banged out a home run and pre-production on the next Indiana Jones movie begins this year, Spielberg's at the helm as director and they are aiming for a 2008 release.

The original three Indy films consumed me when I was growing up. Over and over they would play on the VCR, and when I wasn't actually watching them then odds were I was outside playing in the bush pretending I was just like Indy. Hell I even had an identical bag just like his, a bull whip, and the infamous felt hat.

This is a film I have wanted for eternity. My only fear is that either Ford is to old or that this new film will turn out just like Lucas's new Star Wars trilogy. Despite this apprehension though I cant help but smile a little as that feeling of magic slowly wells up deep down in the pit of my stomach.

Indy's coming back, and we get to go on one more adventure with him. Maybe this time he'll actually get laid!
