"Hear this tragic tale: a sleeping family, a talented murderer, and an adventurous toddler — orphaned, but not assassinated. Small and alone, by accident and luck he escapes the scene of the crime and climbs a grassy hill to safety. At the top of the hill the boy finds a fence, and on the other side, a dark, quiet place. And what is to become of him"
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 10:46PM I'm down with Fincher...he directed stuff like Alien, Fight Club, Se7en, and Zodiac. All good stuff. I have to confess though that although I know of this comic book, I have never read it myself.
The only reason I am even mentioning this is because the screenplay has been written by Neil Gaiman.
And Gaiman is god.

I picked up four books today. I only find this exciting to say because it feels like it has been forever and a day since I have gotten new books.
I got:
Dawn by Tim Lebbon, which I am pretty stoked for. The first book in the series, Dusk, was gritty and harsh...really, really dark - which I thoroughly enjoyed. Hopefully this one will follow suit.
Scar Night by Alan Campbell, a book that I kept meaning to buy in hardcover cause I know that I am going to like this one. However when I saw the paperback version sitting on the shelf today I just couldn't pass up the price difference.
Flesh and Spirit by Carol Berg, again I meant to buy this one in hardcover, but now that the paperback is out...meh. Anyways, Berg has yet to fail in impressing me, her stories are writ with such passion that I find myself falling endlessly in love with her words, worlds, and characters.
The Hanging Mountains by Sean Williams, the prize of todays purchases, the third release in the Books of the Cataclysm series. I love this story, from book one and into book two I was surprised every step of the way and left guessing all through the eagerly turned pages. Very much looking forward to sinking my teeth eyes into this.
Four books that I am very happy to have added to my library. :)
Sadly...the actual reason I went to the bookstore...the purchase I intended to make...it wasn't made. :(
It was there...I had it in my hands...and I will own it...just...just not today. *sniff*
It was...

I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait...
Monday, November 6, 2006 at 5:44PM So today was the day.
Today I picked up Neil Gaiman's Absolute Sandman Vol. 1.
Seriously - wow. I have to admit when I was at the store I had to pep talk myself into dropping 120 Canadian dollars on this weighty tome. I know if I went to Amazon I coulda gotten it cheaper prolly...but it was a right-there-then-and now type thing, ya know? But after getting home, hitting the pipe, and then sitting back with this thing...well ya...it was perfect. I'm thinking tonight I might tuck it in beside me while I sleep - just to be close to it. :P

Also, today is my first day of Egg Nog this season. *hearts Egg Nog*
Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 11:27PM I'll admire the cover, read the blurb on the back of the dust jacket, and then very ceremoniously flip the pages from front to back under my nose.
Yes; My name is Wizz, and I am a book sniffer.
The smell of ink upon paper sends my emotions reeling as I delve into a nostalgic state of mind and reflect upon my reading experiences as a whole. The scent leads me down many forgotten adventures that I once upon a time embarked upon late at night tucked tight under a blanket with only the pages of a story and a single lamp to keep me company.
You can imagine my delight when I began reading Neil Gaiman's latest novel, Fragile Things, and discovered that it smells utterly fantastic.
Go on, don't be shy...give a book a sniff and think of me. =OP
Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 1:16PM I swear, Neil Gaiman never sleeps. The man always has something on the go. Not that I'm complaining mind you, I just don't know how he does it. I'm thinking it must be Crystal Meth.
Anyways here's two covers. The first is the trade paper back cover for Neverwhere. Its been a novel, a BBC mini-series and a 9 issue comic from DC. Now all 9 issues are collected into one pretty little format.

I'm fairly new to the Pratchett Discworld thing, I know about his series of books...bits and pieces and what not from what I have heard people talking about, but have just recently started reading him for myself.
Regardless...what an awesome cake that would be to find in your honor.
