Batman - R.I.P.

So last night I sat down and collected all the issues of the Batman RIP story arc around me and entered into the realm of insanity.

I have been saving this read for when it was completely finished so I could absorb it all in one go.

...I mean, it isn't often that Batman dies.

This was going to be big...it was Captain America dying big...maybe even bigger.

I was also pretty stoked because Grant Morrison is the writer for Batman right now. Yea, Grant frigging Morrison. My gods...I was excited! I had my blanket, some tasty beverage or other, an incredible comic book story to read and a very full pipe to smoke!! Could life possibly be any sweeter?

...

I'm not gonna lie. Way overrated series. WAY, WAY overrated.

It just didn't make any sense. I was expecting some confusion on my part with the little things as I don't normally follow any of the Batman books...but this? This was out there. Even after I had finished reading it I didn't really understand at all what I had just read. is he dead? Did he die? It sure didn't feel like it. It was cool and all to see Batman completely beaten down in every facet of his life. It was cool to see him go insane and not know left from right, and it was cool to see, as usual, that Batman is bad ass and ALWAYS ready for anything. However, I still wasn't satisfied. This was the big thing that was going to change Batman forever?

Nuh-uh!!

This was not Captain America dying big at all. this was just another marketing gimmick blowing something further out of proportion then it was to fluff up sales.

What a let down.

Batman, you my friend are a bitch.

Spider-Man Noir...

"With great power, there must also come great responsibility — and when those in power abuse it, it’s the people’s responsibility to remove them. The year is 1933, and New York City is not-so-secretly run by corrupt politicians, crooked cops, big businesses…and suave gangland bosses like New York’s worst, the Goblin. But when a fateful spider-bite gives the young rabble-rouser Peter Parker the power to fight the mobster who killed his Uncle Ben, will even that be enough? It’s a tangled web of Great Depression pulp, with familiar faces like you’ve never seen them before!"

Pretty cool. I'm not a big huge Spidey fan...he's had his moments to be sure, but I don't think he's the end all and be all. Still, that's a pretty kick ass picture if I do say so myself...and if that's all I end up with, a cool synopsis and a rad picture, well, I'm okay with that.

It premiers this december.

In regards to the post prior to this...

The movie sucked. easily the worst Spider-Man of the three. So bad that I would indeed rank it in the same category as the failed Incredible Hulk movie.

The entire pacing of the story felt horrible...and maybe (big maybe) if things had been arranged differently I would have been able to swallow some of the horrid interactions that the characters had.

The entire theater was full and everyone would laugh together at scenes that people were not supposed to be laughing at.

I could go on to describe how MTV cheesy it was - how the dialog made the new Star Wars films look like a long lost Shakespearean drama...but I wont. Suffice to say that I wont be buying Spider-Man 3 on DVD to sit on my shelf next to the first 2.

Shame. :(

Civil War.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I'm not really a big Marvel fan boy. Don't get me wrong, I grew up with the majority of Marvels superheroes and hold a special place in my imagination for them - but for the most part I don't really collect a whole heck of a lot of Marvel Titles.

When Civil War was being hyped as the comic crossover of the year I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I've been through Marvels epic crossover story arch's before! Fall Of The Mutants, Secret Wars I & II, Apocalypse, blah blah blah. The lead up to Civil War has been incredibly huge. Even before this ginormous arch started up one had to wade through warm up crossovers like Disassembled, House Of M, and Decimation. The marketing ploys behind all these titles was enough to make me wanna puke - and it still does for the most part. Marvel has always been a publishing whore...their foil covers and hologram titles used to lure me in and I often found myself buying the same comic issue five times over so I could have the complete set of covers.

It turned me off of Marvel...pretty much for good. There are a select few titles I still keep tabs on and enjoy, but for the most part Marvel can go fuck a goat.

That said - I decided to pick up the core issues of Civil War and give 'em a go. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I thought for sure to understand what was going on with the Civil War storyline I would have to pick up every comic that had the Civil War sub-title on it. True to their word though, Marvel has kept the core storyline accessible to readers in the primary mini-series alone. Brownie points to them.

The story is as complex or as simple as the reader wants to make it to be. On one side you have Captain America and on the other side you have Iron Man. behind each hero there is a gathering of Marvels finest battling one another. Iron Man believes that Super heroes should have open identities and be registered and trained properly to fight alongside the government (S.H.I.E.L.D.). Captain America wants things to stay as they are and feels that forcing Heroes to register their identities is an infringement on their rights.

Both sides are right, and both sides are wrong, thus the Civil War. Its pretty cool, and there are some pretty memorable battles and surprising dramatic twists involved. It's more then just a money making scheme hatched by Marvel...theres a depth there that I haven't seen from this company for some time, and I am glad that I have decided to follow this crossover...if even it is only the core mini-series and not the rest of the titles. And good gods its great to see Captain America kick the living hell outta people again. I swear the man glows hotter then the sun when he's getting the shit kicked out of him. I love it.

Back In Black.

Thats right!!

Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #21 brings us back Spidey's black costume!!! This time though its not an alien symbiote trying to take over his persons, but rather a “smart stealth” black costume.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Beats the hell out of the spidey Armour that he's been sporting as of late! Adventures Spider-Man may be geared for a bit of a younger audience - but I don't really care, I'm just happy to see him back in black! :)

Marvel Zombies Vs. The Army of Darkness.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

A sort of follow up to the Marvels Zombies mini-series by Kirkman (which was freaking awesome). Now, it appears they've decided to add Ash to the mix - which in my mind makes me do cartwheels of joy!

The press release:

"Marvel Zombies Vs. The Army of Darkness is a five-issue crossover limited series (packaged by Dynamite, solicited by Marvel), co-published by Dynamite Entertainment/Marvel Comics and Marvel’s first multi-part inter-company crossover since 2003’s JLA/Avengers. Debuting in March, the smash-up of the Marvel Universe and the cult horror film franchise will be written by John Layman, with art by Fabiano Neves and June Chung, and covers by Marvel Zombies cover artist Arthur Suydam. Oh, and serving as a creative consultant on the project is the aforementioned foremost authority on the comic book undead – particularly Marvel’s - Robert Kirkman."

Ultimate Alliance ~Nightcrawler Trailer~

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a game coming out this October by Activision along the same vein as the X-Men Legends franchise. As I loved those games it stands to reason that I'm pretty stoked for Ultimate Alliance! Very cool that rather then just containing our beloved mutants from the X-Titles it encompasses a very wide spectrum of heroes and villains from the Marvel universe.

Anyways...regardless of whether or not you are excited for this game this Nightcrawler trailer kicks a whole lot of ass. Check it out - it'll make you a cooler person if you watch it.

Ultimate Avengers 2

"The Avengers are back in a new Marvel animated feature. Faced with an alien invasion of epic proportions, the Black Panther must call on the world's mightiest super heroes to reunite to save mankind from certain destruction. Starring Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Wasp, Giant-Man, Black Widow and Iron-Man."

You can watch the first ten minutes of it here. I liked the first one and hope that they continue on with the same grade of quality with the second one. Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise Of The Black Panther is a straight to DVD release and can be found on shelves August 8th.
